We’re less than a day away from the latest Star Trek motion picture, and even if you’re not a Trekker, there’s a pretty good chance that this could be your summer movie of the year. Of course, spending 133 minutes in the theater might not be quite enough to give you your fill of the final frontier. When you get home from the movies, you’re going to want to set phasers to fun! |

Nerdluster: After the last phaser rifle is fired and the final Gorn flops dead to the floor the recycled plot, repurposed music and reused locations don't help this game at all. Filled with bugs and difficult to complete it is easy to say that this Star Trek doesn't come close to competing with other co-op action titles like Gears of War. With actors like Eric Bana and Benedict Cumberbatch playing the villains in the films it is a shame that this story couldn't have an equally menacing character to do its dirty work. Because its story is only tenuously connected to either movie the game can and should be skipped, especially at its current price point of $60...For that you can take at least 4 people to see the upcoming movie, something I'd feel much more comfortable recommending - you'll enjoy it more too.

| PluggedIn - Star Trek Review

Games with movie tie-ins don't have a great track record. They always offer a few character elements and a little story action fans can buy into, but they tend to fall short when it comes to the overall gaming experience. So after I broke out my Vulcan ear tips and pinned on my favorite plastic Federation pocket emblem, PluggedIn - I set my phaser to "wary" as I ripped through the shrink-wrap around Star Trek. The sensor readings that soon started coming in let me know that the game does fit snuggly into the newly rebooted Trekkie canon. Everything takes place between the events of director J.J. Abrams' 2009 blockbuster flick Star Trek and his new 2013 Star Trek Into Darkness. Moviegoers will remember that the planet Vulcan was demolished during the last go-round. So here in the game, the emotionless, green-blooded Vulcans whip up a high-tech thingamajig they call the Helios device to help them quickly create a new home.

Mike.M writes @ Addicted-Gamers writes: "Lets get the disclaimer out of the way. Im not a Trekkie. I dont dislike Star Trek. Ive just never been a fan. I grew up in the TV show rerun era. Ive seen most of the movies. They range from really good to laughably bad. J.J. Abrams pulled off a miracle in rebooting Star Trek while tying it into the original universe. It was fantastic. It was so successful that a sequel movie was a no-brainer. It also made sense to produce a video game based on the rebooted hit. I just wish the game was as successful as its movie inspiration."
